New Pathways

New Pathways is an initiative created to provide Indigenous students with comprehensive training in theatre production.

It seeks to support Indigenous voices and stories in the performing arts by providing Indigenous students in theatre production with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career.

This flexible one to three-year program is fully financed, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder individuals from pursuing their passion for theatre.

The program offers specialized training in Lighting Design and technology, Sound Design and technology, Projection Design and technology, Production Management, Technical Direction and Stage Management.

Every candidate has different needs and experiences.  Applicants are recommended to follow a one, two or three-year program options.  The program year runs from late August until early May.

A one, two, or three-year program of study

Year One

This year offers foundational training in all areas of theatre production. Students will rotate through different departments to gain a broad understanding of each discipline.

Graduates from a one-year program will have solid foundational skills in multiple disciplines.

Year Two

During Year Two, the program offers  an intermediate training and also focuses on each student’s learning process and leadership. Students will work in multiple areas of interest, receiving in-depth instruction and hands-on experience.

Year Three

This year offers advanced training and practical application. During the third year, students take on leadership roles in NTS productions, applying their skills in real-world scenarios, while receiving individual coaching and support from theatre production professionals.  These experiences prepare them to work in professional theatre production after program completion.

Eligibility and Applications

Applications to the New Pathway Program are open all year. Send a message to admission@ent-nts.ca if you’d like more information.
