O, full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife!
Tempted by evil forces and urged on by his wife, Macbeth assassinates King Duncan to seize absolute power. Once on the throne, fear, paranoia and guilt soon compel them to commit ever more desperate, terrible acts. Macbeth is the story of one couple's thirst for political power and its bloody, human consequences.
Adaptation: This adaptation of Macbeth is based on a version of the play produced at NTS in 2018, which was edited and directed by David Latham. We are grateful for David's permission to work from his original document.

I proposed to direct Macbeth because I was excited by its theatricality and size: this play would offer the actors, designers, the production team -and me! - vivid, ambitious, larger-than-life material to work with. Eventually, I realized I hadn’t fully considered that this play would also ask us to travel into the heart of human darkness and I salute the actors, and the whole team, for joining me on that journey. Near the play’s climax, Macbeth gives voice to an utterly nihilistic worldview, and while my most cynical self sometimes finds itself agreeing with his expression of profound desolation, this process of art-making - full of collaboration, joy and dedicated hard work – has been incredibly meaningful and life-affirming.

We thank Mirza Sarhan (Acting 3) for his committed contribution to this production process.
The land on which we are gathered has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst nations. It is part of the traditional unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka, whose rich cultural heritage continues to teach us that respect, dialogue and peace are pillars of democratic governance.
