A Word From Our Directors
We started working on this creation project at a very different time. Masks on, meters apart, doing our best to see/feel/hear each other, and to build a process of working together in the midst of high anxiety and fear, and a Montréal winter. Each time we would come back, the world would be in a different state, and we’d continue the work of getting to know each other and learning how to work together as best we could, until we had accumulated a wealth of material, ideas, dreams, expectations, perspectives, and hopes.
Over the last year, in pulling together the story of Everything Gone, Everything Shone, a strong sense of these remarkable young artists and what felt important to each of them was really evident; perhaps more so because we had met at such a strange time. We started with far-reaching source material; we wanted to use the idea of histories and mythologies, both shared and personal, as a way to understand where we came from, in order to collectively chart a path forward. The result is a wild and hybrid cosmology, woven from hundreds of I come froms, all swirling towards one big We’re heading to…
It was joyful to think of each of these students in shaping the work – they were brave and generous in creation, and they’re ready for whatever comes next.
