Jason Hand has lit operas for the Canadian Opera Company & Vancouver Opera (Carmen), Edmonton Opera (The Tales of Hoffmann), Minnesota Opera (Macbeth), Tapestry Opera (M’Dea Undone, Oksana G.), The Banff Centre (The Rape of Lucretia, Kopernikus), and Opera Lyra (The Marriage of Figaro). As Resident Lighting Designer for Against the Grain Theatre, has lit La Bohème, Turn of the Screw, Figaro’s Wedding, Pelléas et Mélisande, Death and Desire, #UncleJohn, AtG’s Messiah, A Little Too Cozy, Ayre and Bound. He has lit productions for directors such as Paul Curran, Tim Albery, Joel Ivany, Tom Diamond, Morris Panych, Allen MacInnis, Matthew Jocelyn, and Richard Rose.
His theatre designs include designs for Young People’s Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, the Grand Theatre, Canadian Stage, the Stratford Festival, the Shaw Festival, Theatre Calgary, and Soulpepper. He has been nominated five Dora Awards (Toronto) and won a META (Montreal) for Outstanding Lighting Design, and is a protégé recipient of the prestigious Siminovitch Prize in Theatre.
