Bernard Amyot is Chair of the Board of Directors and the Board of Governors of the National Theatre School of Canada since February 2012.
Mr. Amyot graduated from McGill University’s Faculty of Law and is one of the founding members of LCM Attorneys Inc., a litigation boutique law firm in Montreal. Over a span of thirty years, Mr. Amyot has developed a practice based essentially on commercial litigation. He has extensive experience before the Quebec courts, representing some of the biggest names in Canadian banking institutions. He has lectured and written frequently on legal issues of interest to their operations. He also acts as lead counsel in numerous class action matters involving multiple jurisdictions across Canada and cross-border issues. Bernard Amyot was an associate in the litigation group at the law firm of Heenan Blaikie from 1997 to 2014.
Mr. Amyot has served as National President of the Canadian Bar Association; has been President of the Young Bar Association of Montreal as well as a member of the Council of the Montreal Bar and Executive Council of the Quebec Bar. He has served as President of the American Counsel Association, and as Co-Chair of the Annual Meeting of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association held in Toronto in August 2011.
Mr. Amyot’s involvement in business circles and the community is equally noteworthy. He served as Chairman of Brébeuf College from 2005 to 2011 and was a director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
In 2009, Mr. Amyot was a recipient of the Quebec Bar’s honorary title of Emeritus Lawyer. In 2011, he became Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is recognized as a leading practitioner in the area of corporate and commercial litigation in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada (Woodward / White). Mr. Amyot has been recognized in the 2012 and 2013 editions of the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in securities litigation. In 2012, he was a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, which honours Canadians whose achievements have benefited their fellow citizens, their communities, their organizations and their country.
