JOB OFFER: Technical Director, Training Support

Working under the Director of Technical Services and alongside the teaching administration of both the French and English sections, the chosen candidate provides student supervision and technical support from an educational perspective. He or she facilitates the delivery of all student production projects throughout the school year, in both official languages. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring that all applicable security measures and operating rules for the School are followed.

Job description

In general terms, the chosen candidate will:

1. Manage technical support and supervision from an educational perspective, while also ensuring equipment is correctly secured and helping students develop the necessary skills;

2. Supervise the maintenance, updating, care, and organization of technical material used at the School for teaching and productions and, secondarily, for rentals.

3. Provide students with appropriate equipment and guide them in proper use and care, so that they may skilfully develop their art and so that the School’s resources are maintained.


More specifically, the chosen candidate will:

  • Actively participate in equipment procurement, in collaboration with technical services personnel;
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment at NTS;
  • Ensure technical support and instruction as needed for students during installation, dismounting, and productions. He or she will also hire qualified replacement personnel when needed;
  • Ensure that applicable safety measures for productions are followed at all times. Furthermore, he or she will attend production meetings prior to opening. He or she must also inform the production manager of any problems as they arise;
  • Ensure the proper and optimal use of sound and video studios as well as the lighting lab;
  • Ensure the proper functioning of computer programs and workstations in the sound studio and video room, as well as production laptops. Inform the responsible IT person if any action is needed;
  • Assist instructors with their pedagogical and artistic activities;
  • Provide technical support to external renters when the School rents out its rooms;
  • Coordinate requirements and schedules when the School rents rooms to external parties;
  • Coordinate the use of material and facilities for the Open House (annual event);
  • Stay current on the developments in his/her field of specialization;
  • Be part of the security committee.

IDEAL PROFILE

  • Demonstrated and successful experience in a similar role;
  • Bilingual, written and oral;
  • Facility for working with digital tools;
  • Very good knowledge and strong interest in the latest technology for the performing arts;
  • Able to set priorities and work with schedules and deadlines;
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to foster trust-based relationships and share knowledge;
  • Strong aptitude for teamwork, openness to others and to alternative ideas;
  • Strong manual skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sense of initiative, problem-solving ability, judgement, creativity, rigour, diplomacy, independence, integrity, resourcefulness, sense of humour, and stress management;
  • Talent for education;
  • Ability to manage personnel while fostering independence;
  • Class 5 drivers license.
