Assistant Technical Director

Reporting to the Technical Director of the St-Denis Pavilion, the selected candidate will assist in planning, monitoring, and ensuring the smooth execution of all operations at the St-Denis campus. The activities are primarily divided in three areas: technical support during courses and public exercises of the National Theatre School (NTS), internal NTS events, and corporate and rental events.

    Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the Assistant Technical Director:

    • Supports the Technical Director in all tasks;

    • Ensures smooth technical operations related to student activities and general operations at the St-Denis campus;

    • Collaborates with the Monument-National technical team;

    • Guides and supervises students throughout the production process when they are at the St-Denis campus;

    • Acts as the primary technical coach for students in the absence of the Technical Director;

    • Assists the Technical Director in mentoring students to acquire professional and safe working practices;

    • Generally ensures smooth technical operations at the St-Denis campus;

    • Collaborates with the Technical Director to adequately support students in their various roles as they prepare for their production work, guiding and supervising them throughout their production process;

    • Ensures the validity of various documents necessary for the smooth running of student productions and helps develop new documentation when needed;

    • Ensures that equipment (sound, lighting, projection, special effects, etc.) is used appropriately by the students and according to manufacturers' recommendations;

    • Support with the maintenance of the construction workshop and the inventory of mobile sets and props;

    • Supports with the maintenance of the technical equipment and the inventory of perishables;

    • Ensures compliance with safety standards, rules, and protocols;

    • Participates in setting up rehearsal rooms and the recording studio for pedagogical exercises when required;

    • Supports with the reset of installations at the end of productions;

    • Participates in updating technical documentation related to performance spaces (plans and lists of available equipment) at the St-Denis campus.
    Profile
    • Proven experience in a similar position;

    • Strong organizational and planning skills;

    • Strong teamwork skills and ability to maintain a positive working environment;

    • Excellent communication skills, ability to build trust and share knowledge;

    • Problem-solving skills, discernment, creativity, diplomacy, integrity, sense of humor;

    • Current knowledge of health and safety regulations;

    • Proficiency in managing daily operations related to stage and technical equipment;

    • Good skills in electricity, lighting systems, sound, video, and rigging;

    • Physical ability to lift loads;

    • Good knowledge of Office 365, knowledge of AutoCad and Vectorworks is an asset;

    • Manual dexterity;

    • Bilingualism (French and English) in writing and speaking.

      This is a permanent full-time position, generally from Monday to Friday, but the selected candidate must also be flexible with working hours.

      Salary Range: 49-55k
