Aaron Collier

Aaron Collier was born in Prince Edward Island in 1981 and is an award winning musician, composer, designer, creator and performer. He has led and co-created numerous lauded productions including the auto-biographical multimedia production Frequencies and the fantastical mashup of drag and anime The Princess Show.

His work is technically innovative, multidisciplinary and often explores themes of self acceptance, natural law, joy and spirituality. His composition, sound and video design as well as his original performance work has been presented in Canada, the US, Ireland, the UK, and India. He has 14 years of touring and performance experience throughout the world with his previous bands The Jimmy Swift Band and Scientists of Sound.

He is the co-founder and an artistic and technical director of Halifax-based live art company HEIST whose work has toured nationally. His work as a designer, playwright, and performer has been nominated for more than 20 Theatre Nova Scotia Merritt awards, receiving ten including Outstanding Production for Frequencies, and The Princess Show was a finalist for the 2021 Nova Scotia Masterworks Award.

Aaron’s work Frequencies was presented as part of the Physics and Theatre Symposium at The National Arts Centre and became the subject of an episode of the acclaimed CBC Radio program IDEAS. Since then he has become a contributing artist with IDEAS, composing and narrating Our Bodies, Our Cells: An audio exploration of life’s building blocks. Aaron lives in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, with his husband and HEIST artistic director Richie Wilcox, and regularly works with theater companies in Atlantic Canada including Neptune Theatre, Theatre New Brunswick, Ship’s Company Theatre, and Artistic Fraud.
