Pierre-Étienne Locas - Teaching-artist, Set & Costum Design program

A set designer, Pierre-Étienne Locas graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada in 2005. He designs sets, costumes, and props for the stage. He complements his creative practice through teaching and by undertaking a range of projects in design, museum scenography, illustration, and sculptural installations.

His theatre credits include, among others: Caligula (TNM), Dance Me (BJM), Brave New World (Denise-Pelletier), Le chant de Sainte Carmen de la Main (Spectra), Don Giovanni (Opéra de Montréal), La délivrance (d’Aujourd’hui), Courir l’Amérique (PàP), Yellow Moon (Manufacture), Le Joker (Quat’Sous), Le Fils (Rideau Vert), The Madonna Painter (Centaur), Le vrai monde? (Duceppe), Ça (JPR), and The Droplet (Riksteatret, Oslo, Norway).

He was the recipient of the Masque Award for Emerging Artist of the Year, as well as the 2005–2006 Masque Award for Set Design, for his work on W;t (Théâtre de Quat’Sous). In 2008, he received the Olivier Reichenbach Award from the TNM for his set and prop design for Elizabeth, King of England. He is also a two-time META Award recipient for Outstanding Set Design: in 2014–15 for Travesties (Segal Centre), and in 2018–19 for A Doll’s House, Part 2. In 2017, he received the Créations-sur-le-champ Land Art Audience Award for his work Tronqué. He was also awarded the 2021–22 Critics’ Award for Best Set Designer for his work on La métamorphose (Denise-Pelletier).
