Brigitte Poupart - Teaching Artist

Trained at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal, Brigitte Poupart is a multidisciplinary artist, theatre director, actor, playwright, and filmmaker. As an actor, she has performed in more than thirty theatre productions and has taken part in international tours in Australia, the United States, and Europe. In 1991, she co-founded the company Transthéâtre, where she produces, directs, and writes her own creations. Her most recent production, Jusqu’à ce qu’on meure, was presented at the prestigious Nuits de Fourvière festival as well as at Théâtre La Villette in Paris.

She also won an acting award at the Gala Québec Cinéma in 2018 for her role in Robin Aubert’s Les Affamés. On screen, she also appeared in Philippe Falardeau’s Monsieur Lazhar, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. She played the lead role in Les Salopes, ou le sucre naturel de la peau, which had its world premiere at TIFF in September 2018. She is also part of the cast of Les Tortues, directed by David Lambert, a Belgian-Quebec co-production starring Dave Johns and Olivier Gourmet.

In digital arts, she created Ciel à Outrances, co-produced with the Phi Centre. The installation won two Numix Awards. Her virtual reality short film was presented at Cannes in 2017.

She also directed Luzia for Cirque du Soleil. Presented in several countries, her moving documentary Over My Dead Body, which she considers her signature work, received a Jutra Award and the Grand Prix from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Her second feature-length documentary, À Travers Tes Yeux, has toured the festival circuit and received several awards. She co-directed the short film UWD with Myriam Verreault, produced by Transthéâtre and Voyelles Films. The short film won several awards and was screened at more than thirty festivals.

She presented an immersive exhibition about Magellan at the Musée de la Marine in Paris, in collaboration with Lucid Realities, which attracted 200,000 visitors.

In 2025, the National Theatre School of Canada awarded her the Gascon-Thomas Prize for Innovation. In 2026, she received the Jovette-Marchessault Award, presented to a woman in recognition of her influence on the theatre community.
