Step Into Your Next Role

Theirs Begins Here. Thanks to You.

I Accept This Role

You Have a Role to Play

At the National Theatre School of Canada, we train the next generation of artists who will write what comes next. Each year, over 150 students place their trust in us, sharing their dreams and aspirations. Carrying that trust is a profound responsibility.

For 65 years, it is thanks in part to a dedicated community of donors that NTS has been able to offer an exceptional training experience, one that lives up to that trust.

Imagine the role you can play in the theatrical journey of the next generation of artists.

By giving today, you become part of the moment when it all begins — when we work together to shape the future of theatre. Thank you for your generosity.

What NTS Makes Possible

Interview with Jojo O’Neilthird-year Playwriting program student

What role does the National Theatre School of Canada play in the person and artist you are becoming?

NTS has been a pivotal role in guiding me to becoming the artist I am today, and will continue to inform me on my journey upon my graduation. The lessons I’ve learned in my three years here have been nothing short of invaluable, as NTS has provided me with both space and encouragement to experiment, play, and develop my craft in playwriting. The care and dedication from my mentors, visiting artists, and fellow students has given me incredible opportunities to deepen my practice. My artistic voice is stronger because of NTS, and I am so grateful for my time here.

Can you share a meaningful moment or memory from your journey and explain why it was important to you?

One memory that sticks out was during the trip to the Playwrights Lab at Banff Centre the second-year NTS Playwriting students take every year, where my cohort member and I were welcomed by artists I’ve been admiring since before beginning my journey as an emerging playwright. NTS’ proximity to the Canadian theatre landscape is so important, as it helps students begin to build long lasting relationships with working artists in the field. To be seen as an equal by artists who have inspired me, and to be taught lessons by them, touches me deeply, and I’m so thankful for NTS.

Here We Build Art Togheter

At NTS, art takes shape at the crossroads of all theatre disciplines. Actors, playwrights, set designers, sound and lighting designers, stage managers and production managers in training collaborate and learn together.

Connection to this educational collective extends far beyond the walls of the School.
It draws its strength from the commitment of the community that supports NTS, including you.

— YOUR IMPACT

Your gifts have a direct and tangible impact on our students:

  • they support their perseverance;
  • they help them navigate periods of financial precarity;
  • they fuel their training and bring their artistic projects to life.

In 2024–2025, 103 students received financial assistance bursaries, for a total of $662,994, thanks to your generosity.

Your gifts also support initiatives led by our Student Services department, a resource that remains rare in specialized arts training institutions. Psychosocial support is available to help our students address very real challenges: food insecurity, mental health, access to housing and other issues that can affect success in a demanding training environment.
