TEC – Tamasha O Tamasha
— ABOUT THE PROJECT
Tamasha is an adaptation project, focusing and honing in on a unique form of political theatre originating from Punjab, India. This theatre was helmed by one of the greatest playwrights and theatre-makers in Punjab’s history, Gursharan Singh Bhaji. We plan to put up an original production with an original storyline – inspired and created using 6 of Bhaji’s short plays that Azal translated and adapted as a full-length show in 2023. From the initial translation to the project’s completion, we had intended to go through two development workshops. This project will also be an opportunity for many young and emerging professional artists to hone their craft and engage in theatrical endeavors that are challenging and unique. Tamasha is a project in which the director, actors, and designers will continuously be crafting and adapting the theatre form used by Gursharan Singh in Punjab, India into a physical and verbal artistic language that is global.
