— ABOUT THE PROJECT

Greenhouse Arts Collective, an Ad-Hoc started by Ryan Wilcox, produced a workshopped adaptation of Michel Tremblay’s Hosanna with an exclusively genderqueer creative team. The goal of the production was to explore the potential of producing Hosanna using a contemporary lens with proper community consultation, and provide creative and developmental opportunities for the Trans+ artists in Kjipuktuk/Halifax.

Hosanna expresses uncomfortable truths about the actions of oppressed individuals. The characters are abusive and use their oppressions as an excuse. Examining these actions in a group of genderqueer artists will involve high emotional stakes on the part of the artists. We are excited to see what those high stakes and self-reflection will produce artistically. We are also cognizant of the risks involved in this sort of undertaking. For these reasons we will create a safe creative environment for the artists to converse with unsafe themes and experiences within.
