About the Play
12 superheroes, residing on their private spaceship, are welcoming two new recruits to their group, when suddenly… their world is rocked. Struck with the task of reconstructing a broken world, they are forced to examine their purpose as ‘superheroes’, and the cost of being burdened with such power. In order to do so, they must embark on a dangerous mission, and dive into the deep unknown.

Jani Lauzon is a multidisciplinary artist of Métis ancestry. She is a nine-time Dora nominated actor/director/writer, a three time Juno-nominated singer/songwriter, an award-winning screen actress, a Gemini Award winning puppeteer and a Toronto Theatre Critics award-winning director.

Read more on Jani Lauzon“Collaborative creation is a unique process. It often requires extensive ensemble training, lots of improv and exploration on our feet, which was complicated due to COVID restrictions. In my experience it requires designers to be in the room from the beginning, which we partially achieved early in the process. When speaking with past facilitators, it was recommended that I come in with a concept, a basic structure. When I proposed the concept for “An Irresistible Urge to do Something Inadvisable” I thought it would be interesting to create a show that was, in its own way, a land acknowledgement; not just in honour of Indigenous people of this land, but in homage to our ancestors worldwide. Other than the puppetry, it was the acting students who identified the pedagogical aspects they wanted to incorporate. Each and every one of the students in this production have given their all, have invested their hearts and souls, have worked hard to create a script, have collaborated in meaningful ways, have stretched themselves artistically and as an ensemble have created a rich compelling journey that we hope will do what theatre does best; make us feel, engage and be inspired.”

Disclaimer
The CNESST has agreed to grant a waiver to superior art schools, so that they can follow the same rules imposed on professionals in the cultural sector.
This means that NTS benefits from the exception allowing a group of students from a superior art school to be considered as a small stable work team (as defined by the CNESST) as long as all the acting students are double vaccinated.
Therefore, the cast of An Irresistible Urge To Do Something Inadvisable will not be masked during the show.
