Amelia Sargisson - Teaching Directing

Born and raised in Montréal, Amelia moved to Toronto to study under Perry Schneiderman at The Toronto Metropolitan University Theatre School. Since graduating in 2010, she has worked in English and French, on new works and classics, across Canada, throughout the States and as far as Japan. She spent three seasons at The Stratford Festival; in 2018, she originated the role of Eve in the hit production of Erin Shields’ “Paradise Lost” directed by Jackie Maxwell; in 2019, she played Desdemona on the Festival Stage in “Othello;” and in 2022, she originated the role of Sue in the world-première of Ann-Marie MacDonald’s “Hamlet 911,” directed by Alisa Palmer. Her 2025-26 season includes: Dee in “Stag and Doe” (TIP, Cherissa Richards), “Witness for the Prosecution” (Dayton, Alistair Newton), “Casey and Diana” (WCT, Matt Eger), “The Last Wife” (MTC, Cherissa Richards). Other highlights include: “The Wolves” (Imago/Geordie Theatres, Krista Jackson & Jimmy Blais), Rosencrantz and The Gravedigger in “Hamlet” (Canadian Stage, Jessica Carmichael), Gwendolen Fairfax in “The Importance of Being Earnest” (Citadel Theatre, Jackie Maxwell), the Canadian première of “Red Velvet” directed by Cherissa Richards at Crow’s Theatre (for which she received a Dora nomination); Princess Conti in “La Bête” directed by Dylan Trowbridge at Talk Is Free Theatre; the English and French world premières of Annabel Soutar’s documentary play, “The Watershed/Le partage des eaux” directed by Chris Abraham (Crow’s/Porte Parole); “The 39 Steps” directed by Eda Holmes and “All I Want for Christmas” directed by Rebecca Northan at The Centaur Theatre; Viola/Cordelia in “Twelfth Night/King Lear” for Canadian Stage’s Shakespeare In High Park; touring two pieces from CORPUS’ physical theatre repertoire throughout Japan and the US; and six seasons with Montreal’s Repercussion Theatre. Amelia co-wrote a play with nisha ahuja called “30 People Watching,” which is published in “ReView: An Anthology of Plays Committed to Social Justice,” and is currently writing two new plays: “Bloodshot,” with support from PWM and dramaturgy from Andrea Romaldi, and a solo show called “Fer Shame,” which was showcased in the January 2021 Catalyst Festival at Centaur Theatre. Amelia is the narrator of several audiobooks for Penguin Random House and the proud and adoring aunt of her meteoric niece, Dylan Tammi Lee.
