Micheline Chevrier - Teaching Artist, Set and Costume Design
For nearly 40 years, Micheline Chevrier has pursued her craft as a stage director, artistic director, playwright and teacher in Canada and abroad. She has worked as a stage director for the Shaw Festival, at the National Arts Centre, Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, Citadel, UniThéâtre, Globe Theatre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Canadian Stage, Young People’s Theatre, Théâtre français de Toronto, Centaur Theatre, Geordie Theatre, Segal Centre, Imago Theatre, Théâtre New Brunswick and BeMe Productions (Barcelona and Munich), among others.
Micheline has directed over 90 productions, staging works by Molière, Shakespeare, Churchill and Coward as well as works from Canadian authors John Murrell, Wendy Lill, David Young, Colleen Murphy, Erin Shields and Ann-Marie Macdonald, to name just a few. She has directed a number of plays by Quebec authors, including Michel Tremblay, Michel Marc Bouchard, Jean-Marc Dalpé, François Archambault, Pierre-Michel Tremblay and Carole Fréchette.
From 1995 to 2000, Micheline was artistic director of the Great Canadian Theatre Company in Ottawa, where she staged various new creations along with several classic Canadian works. She was assistant artistic director at Theatre New Brunswick from 1990 to 1992, associate playwright with the Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal from 1992 to 1993 and associate artist with the Canadian Stage in Toronto from 2002 to 2004. In July 2013, Micheline stepped into the role of artistic director of Imago Theatre in Montreal. She has also taught and directed at various institutions, including the National Theatre School, Concordia University, McGill University, York University, Dalhousie University and University of Alberta.
Micheline has won several awards for her productions and staging, among which the Betty Mitchell Award (Calgary), Capital Critics Awards (Ottawa), Dora Mavor Moore Award (Toronto) and META (Montreal).
Micheline lives in her hometown of Montreal.
