Stéphanie Jasmin - Teaching Artist, Set & Costume Design, Mise en scène

Stéphanie Jasmin is the co-director of the UBU theatre company. She graduated from École du Louvre in Paris with a specialization in contemporary art and has a bachelor’s degree in Film Production from Montreal’s Concordia University. As soon as she arrived at UBU in 2000, she put her art history knowledge and mastery of video and cinema languages to good use by contributing to the exploration of new technologies embraced by Denis Marleau in his three technological phantasmagorias (Les Aveugles, Dors mon petit enfant and Comédie, 2002–2004).
Stéphanie has since been in charge of video design for over 30 of the company’s shows, creating the set and costume design for more than half of them. She was also artistic collaborator and playwright, as well as co-director on a number of productions with Denis Marleau, including Jackie (2009), Le dernier feu (2013), L’autre hiver (2015) and, more recently, SOIFS Matériaux (2019).
Her stage work has been displayed on various stages across Montreal, including the Théâtre Espace GO, with which her company is associated, and in Europe (Festival d’Avignon, Comédie-Française in Paris, Manège in Mons, deSingle in Anvers, Grand Théâtre de Genève, etc.). She has written and created two plays (Ombres in 2005 and Les Marguerite(s) in 2018) as well as a number of specialized texts about the theatre and visual arts. She was a lecturer at UQAM’s École supérieure de théâtre, where she focused on the dramaturgy of images. Since 2005, she has also worked as contemporary dance dramaturg for Ginette Laurin, Estelle Clareton and Virginie Brunelle and has led creative workshops in Montreal and Europe. She was awarded the 2018 Siminovitch Prize for her productions as both a video and stage designer.
