François Vincent - Teaching Artist, Set & Costume Design

François Vincent has been with the School for many years. As a visual artist, he has been teaching drawing, painting and printmaking courses for the set and costume design department. He has also regularly supported the department’s leadership in evaluating and admitting students. The National Theatre School recognized his involvement and the quality of his teaching in 2018, when it awarded him the Sims Family Award.
His work has been exhibited in various galleries: Saint-Laurent+Hill in Ottawa, Studio 21 in Halifax and Artgraph in Nagoya, Japan. A number of collections also include his work: The Canada Council Art Bank, National Bank of Canada, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Teleglobe Canada, Laurentian Bank of Canada, Loto-Québec, Fédération des caisses Desjardins, Pratt & Whitney, Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, Musée de Sherbrooke, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Cleveland Museum of Art, Université de Montréal, RBC Dexia (London) and Conseil des arts de Montréal.
François has created a number of works for Quebec’s art and architecture integration program, including the one for the CHUM Research Centre in Montreal. Noteworthy among his latest achievements was a six-month residence in Paris in 2019 thanks to the CALQ grant program. In September 2018, he was entrusted with creating the official portrait of the Right Honorable Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of Canada. In March 2020, he was also in charge of the set of Anton Chekhov’s Trois sœurs, directed by René-Richard Cyr at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde in Montreal. Most recently, he took part in the National Theatre School of Canada’s online course program, in the form of a conversation with Stéphane Longpré, Director of the Set and Costume Design program.
