About the class

This acting course, for anyone and everyone, will develop techniques to heighten specific facets of ourselves in theatrical contexts. Through improvisations, games, and discussions, participants will nurture their own authentic physicalities, rhythms, and wits.  

We’ll develop light voice and physical warm ups, practice cold reading, prepared reading, and get into some textual analysis. We’ll practice humility, respect, and fun in our process-focused course. Participants will work on connecting with their scene partners on many different yet simultaneous levels.  

This class will end with an open class to share a glimpse of what the participants have been working on. 

OBJECTIFS 

Participants will discover how to connect with theatre everywhere. The skills the participants develop in this course can be carried forward beyond theatrical practice : listening, public speaking, leadership, critical thinking, etc

REGISTER

An actor, director, dramaturg, and dad, Andrew Joseph Richardson (Acting, 2008) is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada. Originally from amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (aka Edmonton) to settler families from different regions of the ‘old’ world, A.J. relocated to Tiotià:ke during the pandemic and has since performed with Repercussion Theatre and Teesri Duniya Theatre. A.J. also worked with Playwrights Workshop Montreal’s New Stories Project.

Dramaturgy: adaptations of Richard II (Dauntless City Theatre), Romeo & Juliet (Shakespeare in Action), The Tempest (Shakespeare by the Bow/Theatre Calgary), and the Shakespeare parts in Portia’s Julius Caesar (Shakespeare in the Ruff/Hart House Theatre).
