About the class

This intensive course is designed to introduce you to the art and craft of playwriting, and to help you develop your voice as a playwright. Throughout the course, you’ll learn about the elements of drama, hone your skills and create your own original work.

Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect to cover in this course:

  1. Techniques for building complex and interesting characters.
  2. How to write effective dialogue that advances the plot you’ll design
  3. How to free your playwright’s voice and establish your own
  4. Final Projects: There aren’t any! This course is about your journey. You’ll get to see how you have evolved, where you are now and see where you can still go. By the end, you'll have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of playwriting and the competence to write your own original plays. You’ll also have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the art of theater.

We’ll work as theater artists do – as a collective, always supporting our fellow playwrights on this exciting adventure.
The course will end with an open class to share some of what has been learned over the 10 weeks.
